Brussels \u2013 As regards the aviation sector, \u201cat present, there is no immediate threat t<\/strong>o the security of supply, although stocks of some
\nfuels are tight,<\/strong>” said <\/span><\/span><\/span>the Commissioner for Transport, Apostolos Tzitzikostas<\/strong>, in response to a parliamentary question<\/a>. The EU Commissioner seeks to calm concerns over potential shocks in the aviation sector, stressing that there is still sufficient jet fuel to meet current demand.<\/p>\n

As regards fuel prices, however, the Commission notes that, in the face of the rise in energy prices<\/a> and the reduction in deliveries due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, \u201cEuropean airlines have been less impacted <\/strong>than
\nUS or Asian carriers due to fuel hedging policies on parts of their supply.\u201d<\/span><\/span> Consequently, Tzitzikostas concludes, \u201cthe
\neffect on airlines\u2019 operating costs is partly mitigated.\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In light of this, the Commissioner for Transport continues, the European Commission considers that the higher airfares observed in some EU Member States \u201care likely the result of a mix of
\nhigher airline operating costs, strong seasonal demand, geopolitical disruptions affecting
\noperations and fuel prices, and capacity constraints in certain markets or periods.”<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
