In a j<a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/STATEMENT_26_1741\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">oint statement<\/a>, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, <strong>Kaja Kallas<\/strong>, and the Commissioner for Crisis Management, <strong>Hadja Lahbib<\/strong>, level an accusation that also concerns the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\">Kallas and Lahbib point out that targeting humanitarian staff, hospitals and civilian infrastructure constitutes \u201cviolations of international humanitarian law.\u201d&nbsp;They provide an update on this illegal war: &#8220;<span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\"><strong>So far in 2026, 82 aid workers have been killed, 39 kidnapped, and 97 wounded.<\/strong>&#8221; Yet, they point out, \u201cthe law is clear:<strong> the protection of civilians, including humanitarian workers, is not optional<\/strong><em>.<\/em>\u201d<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/05\/20\/netanyahu-like-the-leaders-of-hamas-international-arrest-warrant-sought-for-all-for-war-crimes-and-crimes-against-humanity\/\">https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2024\/05\/20\/netanyahu-like-the-leaders-of-hamas-international-arrest-warrant-sought-for-all-for-war-crimes-and-crimes-against-humanity\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\">This is where the direct criticism of the leaders of Russia and Israel comes in. \u201cIn Ukraine, Russia&#8217;s war of aggression has created humanitarian needs that reverberate far beyond the country&#8217;s borders,\u201d the two members of the EU executive denounce. While \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/05\/20\/the-eu-is-turning-a-deaf-ear-to-the-cries-of-distress-for-gaza-coming-from-its-citizens\/\">i<strong>n Gaza<\/strong><\/a><strong>, destruction and suffering continue on a catastrophic scale.<\/strong> This last point amounts to a (verbal) rebuke of the &#8220;friend&#8221; Netanyahu.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"HwtZe\" lang=\"it\"><span class=\"jCAhz ChMk0b\"><span class=\"ryNqvb\"><span class=\"jCAhz JpY6Fd\">But it is not just Russia and Israel that are violating the law and human rights: \u201cFrom the Horn of Africa to the Sahel, from Afghanistan to Myanmar, humanitarian crises continue to unfold with far too little global attention,\u201d Kallas and Lahbib further denounce.
