According to Eurostat, the European Union’s statistical office, in 2025 it grew 2.9 per cent from 2024. This marks the first increase since 2022, following two consecutive declines: one recorded in 2023 (-1.5 per cent compared with 2022) and one in 2024 (-1.9 per cent compared with 2023). Eurostat noted that constant prices are adjusted for inflation using prices from a fixed base year – for the estimates published today, 2021 – to reflect changes in value over time, whilst current (nominal) prices are measured using the actual prices of goods in the year in which they are produced.

The data show that, between 2015 and 2018, production in the EU increased gradually each year. In 2019, it saw a slight decline before falling sharply in 2020 due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. However, despite this contraction, both 2021 and 2022 saw increases across all industrial sectors. In nominal terms, the value of EU production rose from 5,869 billion euros in 2024 to 6,090 billion euros in 2025.

Analysing the Member States individually, Eurostat highlights that in 2025, six EU countries accounted for 71 per cent of the EU’s total production value. Germany ranked first, accounting for 26 per cent of the EU total, followed by Italy (14 per cent), France (12 per cent), Spain (8 per cent), Poland (6 per cent) and the Netherlands (4 per cent). The remaining twenty-one Member States contributed smaller shares (4 per cent or less).

Looking at the main manufacturing sectors, the largest increase was seen in food products, which rose by 3.8 per cent compared with 2024 and by 11.2 per cent compared with 2015. In second place was the machinery and equipment sector with a rise of 3.3 per cent, followed by motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (+0.6 per cent). Chemical and metal products saw slight declines compared with 2024 (both -1.4 per cent).
