{"id":463332,"date":"2026-08-28T10:15:58","date_gmt":"2026-08-28T08:15:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/2026\/08\/28\/caccia-bruxelles-avverte-e-aiuta-litalia-alcuni-aspetti-della-riforma-sono-contro-le-norme-ue\/"},"modified":"2026-08-28T11:10:35","modified_gmt":"2026-08-28T09:10:35","slug":"hunting-reform-brussels-warns-and-assists-italy-saying-some-aspects-may-breach-eu-rules","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/08\/28\/hunting-reform-brussels-warns-and-assists-italy-saying-some-aspects-may-breach-eu-rules\/","title":{"rendered":"Hunting reform: Brussels warns and assists Italy, saying some aspects may breach EU rules"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels \u2013 The proposed reform of Italy\u2019s hunting law, as presented by the majority parties, could be in breach of European legislation, said&nbsp;EU Commissioner for the Environment, <strong>Jessika Roswall<\/strong>, who, whilst exercising due caution, admits that something doesn&#8217;t add up. \u201cThe Commission received complaints regarding <a href=\"tel:\/\/1552\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">draft law&nbsp;1552<\/a>\u201d, which revises hunting regulations in the country, and, as the Commissioner acknowledges, \u201cthe draft provisions publicly available were preliminarily assessed against the relevant requirements of the <a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/dir\/2009\/147\/oj\/ita\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Birds<\/a>and<a href=\"https:\/\/eur-lex.europa.eu\/eli\/dir\/1992\/43\/oj?eliuri=eli%3Adir%3A1992%3A43%3Aoj&amp;locale=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Habitats<\/a>&nbsp;Directives and aspects that may not be compatible with the&nbsp;EU rules were identified.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Italian legislation is therefore under scrutiny by the European Commission, which, however, is not commenting on either any potential sanctions or developments in a matter that remains entirely a national issue. Roswall suggests that it is too early to consider infringement proceedings against Italy.&nbsp;Meanwhile, \u201cthe Commission is currently assessing the Italian authorities\u2019 response in detail,\u201d and discussions are ongoing with Rome. Following the complaints lodged in Brussels, \u201cthe relevant Italian authorities <strong>were&nbsp;contacted<\/strong>\u201d and they \u201c<strong>are considering proposing amendments to the legislators in light of the Commission\u2019s observations<\/strong>.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Everything could change, then. The necessary amendments would result from criticism and pressure from environmental organisations and opposition parties.
