As work resumes in Brussels, the Democratic Party is placing industry and employment at the heart of its priorities for the new political year. These priorities are being presented by the Democratic Party\u2019s head of delegation to the European Parliament, <strong>Nicola Zingaretti<\/strong>, who is focusing in particular on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2026\/03\/04\/with-the-industrial-accelerator-act-made-in-europe-makes-its-grand-entrance-into-eu-law\/\">negotiations on the Industrial Accelerator Act<\/a> (IAA), the European Commission\u2019s proposal to strengthen the competitiveness of European industry. \u201cIt is a positive move and one of interest to the Union,\u201d but \u201cit needs to be amended,\u201d Zingaretti argues. Among the points to be reviewed are <strong>the concept of <em>Made in the EU<\/em>, the implementation timetable and incentives, as well as the inclusion of \u201cindustrial sectors that are very important today but which are currently excluded<\/strong>.&#8221;&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/single-market-economy.ec.europa.eu\/publications\/industrial-accelerator-act_en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Industrial Accelerator Act<\/a>, presented by the Commission on 4 March 2026, aims to strengthen European manufacturing and the EU\u2019s strategic autonomy. <strong>Among other measures, the proposal introduces the&nbsp;<em>\u2018Buy European\u2019<\/em> criteria in public procurement for certain strategic sectors and aims to speed up authorisations for new industrial facilities<\/strong>, as well as strengthen controls on foreign investment in sectors deemed strategic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThis is a critical moment for the European manufacturing industry,\u201d<\/strong> &nbsp;the PD\u2019s head of delegation warns. To define its position, the party has met with \u201cover 110 Italian companies,\u201d \u201call the employers\u2019 organisations in the labour market,\u201d and the trade unions. The aim, Zingaretti explains, is to formulate a position \u201cin close alignment with our country\u2019s interests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;Hence, the defence of Europe as a means of addressing&nbsp;the industry\u2019s difficulties. \u201cWith Europe, we have a chance. <strong>By destroying Europe, this opportunity for Italian industry \u2013 or for the industries of European countries \u2013 effectively ceases to exist,\u201d<\/strong> he said. The PD\u2019s stance, he adds, is \u201ca pro-European battle to change Europe, not a recklessly destructive one,\u201d because weakening it \u201cwould leave Italian industries and Italian workers to fend for themselves\u201d.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Among the priorities for the new political season is also the issue of war. \u201cWe are obviously concerned,\u201d says Zingaretti, describing an atmosphere in which the risk of a \u201cfrightening\u201d escalation seems to be growing \u201cevery day, in every action, in many corners of the globe.\u201d For this reason, he argues, <strong>Europe must&nbsp;act \u201cfor peace.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Brussels \u2013 Here they call the&nbsp;rentr\u00e9e.
