Brussels \u2013 From Reggio Emilia to Brussels\u2026 by bike! Three cyclists today (9 September), who call themselves “the Pandita group” in honour of a journey they made in an old 1990s Panda, arrived at the European Parliament to support All Inclusive Sport<\/b>: a project which, coordinated by the Volunteering Service Centre (CSV Emilia) in the provinces of Piacenza, Parma, and Reggio Emilia, for the past ten years, has enabled children and young people with disabilities to train alongside their peers and within the same local sports clubs<\/strong>. <\/p>\n

In Brussels, the group was welcomed by the Emilia-Romagna Region\u2019s Delegation to the European Union, as well as by four Italian MEPs. Among them were S&D MEPs Annalisa Corrado, Alessandra Moretti, and Stefano Bonaccini, and Green Party MEP Cristina Guarda.<\/strong> Corrado said she was \u201cdelighted\u201d to welcome the cyclists and to \u201cbear witness to their commitment to true inclusion and inclusive sport.\u201d She stated that the initiative helps \u201cthe families of young people with disabilities to build a sense of community,\u201d as well as to \u201cgain access to sports facilities and disciplines.\u201d Reggio Emilia \u201cis renowned for its educational provision and its ecosystem of inclusive education,\u201d and for this reason \u201cwe proudly support this initiative in every way,\u201d she concluded. Guarda called for support for \u201cthe fundraising campaign to reach the \u20ac18,000 needed to include a further twenty young people in the project\u201d\u2014following the involvement of around 200 young people last year. She also emphasised that today \u201cthe commitment lies not only in fundraising, but also in the responsibility to vote appropriately in this chamber to secure a social fund and the necessary resources so that the Regions can implement these projects without placing a burden on the voluntary sector and individuals.<\/strong>\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cWhat you\u2019ve seen today is an example of one of the ecosystems we\u2019re developing,\u201d commented the president of CSV Emilia, Lucia Piacentini<\/strong>. The aim is to enable \u201c<\/span><\/span>young people, including those with disabilities, to choose the sport they prefer and to become part of a society <\/span><\/span>closest to home,” she added. To do this, \u201cwe need to<\/span><\/span> build a village, made up of<\/span><\/span> <\/span>institutions, volunteering, and citizens,\u201d he emphasised. The <\/span><\/span>project\u2019s creator, Andrea Bonini,<\/strong> explained that when he discovered All Inclusive Sport, \u201che simply had to get involved\u201d and decided to immediately call on his friends and \u201cthe team here today,\u201d who \u201cimmediately responded\u201d to his request. <\/span><\/span>For Bonini, this is \u201c<\/span><\/span>truly unique” because “<\/span><\/span>all the money they gave us went towards the project, so it was very satisfying for me.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
