This is according to Eurostat, the EU\u2019s statistical office. In the second quarter of 2026, the average price of agricultural output in the EU <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/web\/products-eurostat-news\/w\/ddn-20260910-2?etrans=it\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fell by 5.8 per cent<\/a>, compared with the second quarter of 2025. <strong>This marks the third consecutive quarter to record a decline<\/strong>. The average price of agricultural inputs\u2014defined by Eurostat as &#8220;goods and services consumed in agriculture and not related to investment, such as energy, fertilisers, or animal feed&#8221;\u2014rose by 4.7 per cent, following a 2025 characterised by &#8220;relative stability.&#8221; The estimates are taken from the <a class=\"ecl-link\" href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/eurostat\/databrowser\/explore\/all\/agric?lang=en&amp;subtheme=agr.apri.apri_pi&amp;display=list&amp;sort=category\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">data on agricultural price indices<\/a> published today (10 September) by the Agency.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">In the second quarter of 2026, <strong>year-on-year decreases&nbsp;in the average price of agricultural output were recorded in twenty EU Member States<\/strong>. The sharpest declines were observed in <strong>Denmark<\/strong> (-17.2 per cent), <strong>Ireland<\/strong> (-16.2), <strong>Latvia <\/strong> and <strong> Estonia <\/strong> (both -14.5), <strong>Luxembourg <\/strong> and <strong> Lithuania <\/strong> (both -14.2). Conversely, rates of increase were recorded in <strong>Croatia<\/strong> and <strong>Malta<\/strong> (+3.9 per cent for both) and in <strong>Cyprus<\/strong> (+3.5). <strong>The average price of non-investment inputs <\/strong>(energy, fertilisers, and animal feed) <strong> rose in all Member States<\/strong>. The highest&nbsp;growth rates were recorded in <strong>Lithuania<\/strong> (+16.4 per cent), <strong>Romania<\/strong> (+11.7 per cent), and <strong>Latvia<\/strong> (+9.7 per cent), while the lowest were recorded in <strong>Hungary<\/strong> and <strong>Portugal<\/strong> (both +1.2 per cent) and in <strong>Malta<\/strong> (+1.5 per cent).<\/p>\n<p class=\"ecl-u-type-paragraph\">Looking at individual products,<strong> the data reveal sharp falls in the average price of milk<\/strong> (-16.6 per cent between the second quarter of 2025 and 2026) <strong>and cereals<\/strong> (-5.6 per cent).
