The European Commission today (1 October) has \u201cidentified the arrangements for covering Ukraine\u2019s budgetary and defence needs for 2026,\u201d reaffirming \u201cthe steps necessary to ensure their timely disbursement,\u201d an announcement that came in a <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/statement_26_2045\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">joint statement<\/a> with Ukraine. It is now official: <strong>in 2027, \u20ac45 billion will be swiftly allocated as part of the loan to support Ukraine<\/strong> \u2013 known as <a href=\"https:\/\/ec.europa.eu\/commission\/presscorner\/detail\/en\/ip_26_90\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine Support Loan<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eunews.it\/en\/2025\/12\/19\/eu-backs-90-billion-eur-market-based-loan-for-ukraine-as-work-continues-on-russian-assets\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u20ac<span>90 billion <\/span><\/a> package approved by the European Union to assist Kyiv during the2026\u20132027 period \u2013 subject to the agreed conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The two sides also pledged to begin work \u201cto identify further budgetary and defence requirements,\u201d&nbsp; agreeing that other partners should also \u201chonour their financial commitments and step up their efforts\u201d to support the country under attack from Moscow. Finally, the pledges also include a commitment to \u201cmeet monthly to coordinate our joint efforts.\u201d Today\u2019s initiative follows an informal meeting of the \u201cUkrainian Donors\u2019 Platform\u201d held in Brussels on 29 September, during&nbsp;which the Ukrainian Finance Minister, <strong>Serhiy Marchenko<\/strong>, outlined his country\u2019s financial challenges.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Following the bilateral meeting, which took place on 22 September on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly, between the President of the European Commission, <strong>Ursula von der Leyen<\/strong>, and <span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">the President of Ukraine, <strong>Volodymyr Zelensky<\/strong>, the head of the European Commission <\/span>welcomed the news. \u201c<span class=\"css-1jxf684 r-bcqeeo r-1ttztb7 r-qvutc0 r-poiln3\">Following our productive meeting in New York, our teams have made good progress today,\u201d she said. Zelensky also noted that \u201cour dialogue with the European Commission has yielded good results.\u201d Having \u201cagreed on the format, timeline, and steps required to ensure comprehensive coverage,\u201d from now on, \u201cwe will coordinate this work and align our actions on a monthly basis, ensuring continuous coordination,\u201d he concluded. <\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Looking ahead to 2027, a call for partners to honour their commitments.
