My message today is that if Alberto (Núñez Feijóo, ed.) is strong, if the Partido Popular is even stronger, then there will be no need for any influence from more radical forces, nor will these be decisive.” These were the words of Manfred Weber, MEP and chair of the European People’s Party (EPP) group, during a press briefing today (6 October) in Strasbourg, on the sidelines of the European Parliament’s plenary session.

Yesterday (5 October), the Spanish Prime Minister, Pedro Sánchez, announced that Spain will go to the polls on 29 November for a snap general election. And today, Weber did not miss the opportunity to weigh in on the matter: “Spain’s future is now in the hands of the Spanish people, who have a say in the matter. And at this moment, I firmly believe that Alberto Núñez is the right man to take the lead,” he said.

Alberto Núñez Feijóo is the current president of the conservative Partido Popular (PP), and the leader of the opposition to Sánchez in Spain.
