The President is elected directly by the people and appoints the Prime Minister based on the election results. The President of the Republic is elected by direct universal suffrage in a two-round system. Therefore, an absolute majority of the votes is required to be elected in the first round. If none of the candidates secures this, the two candidates who received the most votes in the first round proceed to the run-off.
