Manfred Weber risponde al discorso sullo Stato dell'Unione appena pronunciato da Ursula von der Leyen

Brussels- No change for the European People’s Party: von der Leyen and Metsola again. A conference of the political groups of the European Parliament was held today in Brussels with President Roberta Metsola. During the meeting, the leaders analyzed the vote and expressed support for the leading candidate (Spitzenkandidat), which is the process of defining the president of the European Commission from the name formulated by the political families. Manfred Weber, the president of the EPP, reiterated that Ursula von der Leyen is their candidate to lead the EU executive.

“The success in the elections gives us a strong mandate. We are united in supporting von der Leyen, who will continue as chairman of the Commission for a second term. All other parties must respect the result of the elections,” Weber stressed after the meeting with the leaders of the popular parties.

It is a message that the party leader that won the elections also sends to the heads of state and government, who will meet next Monday in Brussels at an informal dinner precisely to discuss the names to be assigned to the EU’s top leadership for the next legislature.

Meanwhile, the EPP will have its official meeting on June 18, during which it will vote on its candidate for president of the EU Parliament: it will still be Roberta Metsola.
