Brussels – The President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, will be in Brussels to pay tribute to the European Union, making an official visit to EU institutions and meeting with EU leaders. The two-day mission, scheduled for May 20 and 21, reaffirms Italy’s pro-European commitment.
On Tuesday, the head of state will meet with the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, while on Wednesday, Mattarella will attend the meeting of the College of Commissioners and then meet with President Ursula von der Leyen for a bilateral meeting. He will also later meet with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and Italian MEPs.
It is not the first time the President of the Republic has visited EU institutions. It already happened during his first term in 2015.
