Huawei, Princi (FI): “Involved due to an obvious case of mistaken identity”

MEP accused of attending a meeting in Brussels, "but I was in Reggio Calabria"

Brussels – It wasn’t her, it couldn’t have been her because she was 2,000 kilometres away, and she can prove it. Forza Italia MEP Giusi Princi disputes her involvement in the Belgian judiciary’s investigation into the so-called Huawei case, which involves a number of MEPs who allegedly accepted money or benefits (like a stadium ticket for a match in Belgium) in exchange for supporting the communications equipment company.

She herself reveals the attentions of the magistrates, who would have asked Parliament for an authorisation to proceed against her as well, after those released yesterday: “I am accused of having participated in a meeting in Brussels on 25 June 2024, undeclared to the European Parliament,” Princi explained in a note, “a meeting in which I did not participate at all because I was in Reggio Calabria at the end of the school year recital of my little daughter, as can be seen from the copious documentary evidence in support” (bold in the original, ed.).

“Moreover,” continues Princi, “I point out that on the same date I was not yet a Member of the European Parliament, having only been proclaimed on 3 July 2024.“

The MEP adds, “through my lawyers, I promptly informed the competent authorities of my total and documented extraneousness to the alleged fact. Having full faith in justice, I therefore trust that this obvious error of person will be cleared up as soon as possible,” the MEP concludes.
