    Lara Comi

Brussels – The Milan Court of Appeal today acquitted former Forza Italia MEP Lara Comi of corruption and false invoicing charges in the “soup kitchen” trial. As a result of these charges, Comi was placed under house arrest in 2019 and then, on 2 October 2023, was sentenced to four years and two months in the first instance.

As regards the proceedings for fraud against the European Union concerning MEPs’ expenses, given that the sums under investigation had been repaid in full, Comi was sentenced to a suspended one-year term and a fine of €500.
