Iran, opposition to Ayatollahs’ regime parades in Brussels: “EU recognise Revolutionary Guards as terrorists”

The National Council of Resistance in Iran (NCRI) demonstrated on the day of the leaders' summit: "Stop appeasement policy, favours Tehran"

Brussels – Sanctions, as are critical stances against the ayatollah regime, are good. But the European Union must do more. The demand comes from the Iranian opposition, which took to the streets at the European Council summit to demand “an end to the EU’s appeasement policy” and “insert the Revolutionary Guards on the EU list of terrorist organizations.” Kamran Dalir, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the National Council of Resistance in Iran (NCRI), explains to Eunews the reason for the mobilisation on the day EU leaders are meeting in Brussels to discuss, among other things, the Middle East.

“It is clear that we are not in favour of Israel right now because it is killing innocent civilians” in the Palestinian territories, but “Iran is helping to increase tensions to divert attention from the real issue: internal repression.”

Dalir wants to be clear: “We are not here asking anyone to help us bring democracy to the country; that is up to us” Iranians. What is called for from Europe is a change of course and more determination to support the Iranian people.”These EU policies have not only allowed the regime to persist with its harmful actions but have also allowed terrorism to reach the very heart of Europe.” criticizes Shahin Gobadi, another member of the NCRI Foreign Affairs Committee. Because, he explains, “the evidence of the Revolutionary Guards’ involvement in global terrorism is overwhelming and long-standing.”

The European Union has started considering possible action against the Revolutionary Guards, but the decision is very delicate. This is a military body integrated into the armed forces, and declaring a national army “terrorist” has legal repercussions that need to be studied. However, the Iranian opposition nonetheless calls for haste.

For security reasons, the march was not allowed to approach the European Council building, and the protesters were made to set up at the back of the building housing the European Commission. However, the hundreds or so people holding the Iranian flag dating back to the Shah’s time still made their voices heard, chanting slogans supporting democracy and a different EU involvement.
