Macfrut 2025, Rimini’s international fruit and vegetable forum makes a stop in Brussels

Brussels – In Europe, fruit is a serious issue: the EU produces large quantities of high-quality vegetables and fruits, yet it has lost momentum in recent years to the point of becoming an importer. Twelve-star agriculture’s challenge is achieving greater commercial and productive competitiveness in the global marketplace without falling behind in ecological, technology, and water goals. These were some of the main themes of the presentation of the Macfrut 2025 event, held this morning (March 20) in Brussels by its president, Renzo Piraccini, and Tindaro Paganini, director of the Brussels office of the Italian Trade Agency (ICE).

The show, the oldest of its kind in the EU with more than 40 editions, will be held this year at the Expo Centre in Rimini from Tuesday, May 6 to Thursday, May 8. “Macfrut will be the international showcase of the Italian fruit and vegetable supply chain and beyond, with more than 1,320 exhibitors, 56,000 visitors and more than 1,500 top buyers from around the world,” Piraccini said. “We want to create opportunities for companies focusing on sustainability and the latest technologies. Not only large retail companies are involved, but companies from the entire production chain, from before planting to the shelf.”

The president also stressed the international dimension of the event: “40 per cent of the exhibiting companies come from abroad, the vast majority from Africa, a number that is increasing year by year.” The international partner chosen for the 2025 event will, not surprisingly, be Egypt, a country that has experienced very strong growth in fruit and vegetable exports in recent years. The Region of Lazio, with its PDO and PGI products, will be the national partner for 2025. Macfrut will host numerous events, including the Spices & Herbs Global Expo, the Biotechnology symposium and the International potato symposium, as well as thematic focuses dedicated to irrigation technologies and agri-solar systems. The new edition will also include the Healthy Food Show, aimed at promoting healthy products with high nutritional value and will see, as guests, in addition to experts and researchers in the field of nutrition, nationally renowned testimonials from the world of entertainment and sports, such as Valentina Vezzali, Daniele Lupo, Manuela Arcuri, and Valeria Marini.
