Brussels – The European Commission has determined that Brazil ensures an adequate level of data protection, “comparable to that of the EU.” Therefore, it has started the process of adopting a data protection Draft Adequacy decision with Brazil. Once adopted, the decision would enable free data flows between the EU and Brazil for businesses, public authorities, and research projects. The Brazilian authorities have also initiated a process to adopt an equivalent decision, allowing Brazilian data to flow freely to the EU.
“Brazil has built a robust framework for safeguarding privacy and personal data, firmly anchored in the protection of fundamental rights,” said Michael McGrath, Commissioner for Democracy, Justice, Rule of Law, and Consumer Protection.
