Ireland, Spain, and Lithuania: Three-way race for Eurogroup presidency

Brussels – It will be a three-way race for the presidency of the Eurogroup.  Following the candidacy put forward by the outgoing president, Irish Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe of the EPP, also the Finance Ministers of Spain and Lithuania, Carlos Cuerpos and Rimantas Šadžius, both socialists, made official their intention to chair the informal body.

The election of the new president will take place at the meeting of the Eurogroup on 7 July. A simple majority of votes, at least 11 out of 20, is required for nomination.
