Brussels – The EU Civil Protection Mechanism has been activated in Cyprus, following a serious fire in the Limassol district. The European Commission states that, following the request of the Cypriot authorities, the EU Emergency Response Coordination Centre has mobilized two Canadairs of the joint EU firefighting fleet, rescEU, stationed in Spain.
Throughout the summer, firefighters from all over Europe are strategically pre-positioned in key high-risk areas such as Portugal, Spain, Greece, Italy, and France. In total, approximately 670 firefighters from 14 countries participate in this initiative.
