Postal services: EU approves FedEx’s takeover of InPost

Brussels – The European Commission has approved the joint acquisition of Luxembourg-based InPost S.A. by A&R Investments Limited, FedEx, and IS Iris Financial Investor. The transaction primarily concerns small parcel delivery services in Poland, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. 

The European Commission has concluded that the transaction would not raise competition concerns, given its limited impact on the markets in which the companies operate. In particular, the 12-star Commission noted that the activities of InPost and FedEx are “largely complementary and rely on different business models.” Furthermore, the increase in market shares “is minimal” and the parties will continue to face effective competition from several established operators.
