Brussels – The President of the European Council, António Costa, is stepping up work on the proposed multiannual financial framework (MFF 2028–2034) with the aim of reaching a political agreement by the end of the year. Ahead of the extraordinary leaders’ summit in late November, EU sources explain, “over the next two weeks, the Cabinet of the President of the European Council will hold bilateral discussions with delegations from all Member States,” in order to gather everyone’s views on the proposals for new own resources, which are the key to the negotiations.
The series of meetings at ambassadorial level, the same sources explain, will take place precisely “in preparation for an updated negotiating framework to be presented ahead of the extraordinary meeting of the European Council.” It is at that meeting that the President of the European Council intends to present a new compromise proposal, including the missing figures and amendments to the existing ones.
