Brussels – According to French President Emmanuel Macron, it is crucially important for the European Union to build its proprietary model of AI, artificial intelligence, that can become competitive on par with those of China and the United States.
Macron’s vision, presented during a visit to Serbia Aug. 30-31, proposes a third way, appropriate and specific to Europe, based on the principles of “science, standards, and solutions.” The European perspective would be an intermediate dimension of combining public and private, contrasting both the Chinese model of innovation purely managed by the government and the American model, which is left to private management.
After the AI Act, by which the EU made progress in regulating artificial intelligence, investment in innovation is now crucial, according to Macron, in realising the Union’s goals in this field and not falling behind its external competitors.
