Hansen: Exceptional agricultural aid coming soon; “Italy gets an important share”

The Commissioner for Agriculture promised to speed up measures to support the sector, alongside a significant portion of the 540 million in funding pledged for ‘Made in Italy’ products

Brussels – Italy, with its ‘Made in Italy’ products, can breathe a sigh of relief: it will receive “an important share” of the EU’s extraordinary 540 million euros in agricultural support through Common Agricultural Policy flexibility measures, Christophe Hansen said in response to a parliamentary question from Giuseppe Antoci (M5S/The Left) on Sicily’s agricultural crisis. This support “will provide immediate relief ahead of the next production cycle and help sustain agricultural production.”

For Italy, as for the other EU countries concerned, Hansen goes on to explain, the Commission “will soon adopt an exceptional support for farmers
facing high input costs”, thereby making the promised and announced 540 million euros available without delay. The European Commission, the Commissioner for Agriculture said, “recognises the pressure farmers face due to high energy, fertiliser and
transport costs linked to tensions in the Middle East and is working on multiple fronts to
    support farmers.”
