Brussels – The European Union goes to Sanremo to emphasize the importance of democracy. How: with a special 20-point bonus to the Fantasanremo, which will be awarded the moment one of the competing artists brings a pencil to the stage.

“The pencil is a symbol of democracy and reminds us of the importance of a right we all have and should not waste: the right to vote. Voting is personal and equal, free and secret. Through voting, citizens with the most diverse ideas can help build the Europe of the future,” reads the press release issued by the European Parliament.

Participation in Fantasanremo is part of the institutional campaign of the European Parliament and the European Commission to promote voting in the upcoming European elections on June 8 and 9, 2024.

All that remains is to remind your favourite singer to carry a pencil on stage, because “if democracy wins, we all win”!
