Brussels – After shutting down Voice of Europe and sanctions for pro-Russian activities by the online media outlet, the EU imposed sanctions against two key people linked to the online newspaper, who will be barred from entering or transiting Europe. The European Union sanctioned Artem Marchevskyi, who for the ministers of the 27 Member States “played a key role in the acquisition of Voice of Europe” and, is the paper’s unofficial head, “played a decisive role” in spreading disinformation aimed at undermining Ukraine’s credibility and public image and its efforts to defend itself against Russia’s war of aggression.

Also on the list is Viktor Medvedchuk, again for promoting policies and actions designed to undermine the credibility and legitimacy of the Ukrainian government. Medvedchuk also has “close personal ties with [Russian President] Vladimir Putin and is associated with his regime.” Through his associates, the EU Council points out, Medvedchuk controlled Ukrainian media and used it to spread pro-Russian propaganda in Ukraine and beyond.”
