PD first delegation of socialists, S&D group leader will be Italian

A total of 21 PD deputies. Leadership wrested from Spain by just one seat

Brussels – The PD is the leading party in the Social Democratic Group in the European Parliament (S&D). With 21 MEPs elected, one more than Spain, Italy became the largest delegation within the second force in the Brussels hemicycle. The result implies that the PD, as is customary for this component of the Parliament, will be able to secure the S&D group leader, who will have to be indicated by the PD, assuming no surprises. Formality is expected on June 25, when the group will meet in Brussels for the first meeting of the newly elected.
