Brussels – Former diplomat Marta Kos was nominated as Slovenia’s new European commissioner after Commission President Ursula von der Leyen publicly lobbied for governments to replace their male candidates with women to have gender parity in the next executive. Therefore, Slovenia changed its first candidate, Tomaž Vesel, who withdrew on Friday, to a woman.
Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister Matej Arčon announced that Kos, a former diplomat who served as ambassador to Germany and Switzerland, was unanimously approved by the government.
