Brussels – The European Commission has approved, under EU state aid rules, the Italian programme worth 500 million euros to support farmers affected by floods and landslides that occurred in September 2024 in the Emilia-Romagna region. The programme will compensate businesses for the damage suffered and support investment to restore agricultural production capacity.
The programme is open to businesses of all sizes engaged in primary agricultural production, the processing and marketing of agricultural products. Under the programme, aid will take the form of direct grants covering up to 100 per cent of the investment costs required to restore production potential to pre-disaster levels and up to 100 per cent of the damage suffered by businesses as a direct result of natural disasters. This includes physical damage to assets such as buildings and equipment, loss of income and costs arising from the natural disaster.
The programme will run until 17 September 2028. The European Commission has concluded that the scheme is proportionate, as it is limited to the minimum necessary, and that it will have a limited impact on competition and trade between Member States.
