Riunione del collegio dei commissari [Bruxelles,

Brussels – The European Commission is already in summer mode, with meetings of the College of Commissioners suspended and briefings by spokespersons to the accredited international press reduced to a minimum. The work programme is on hold until 4 September: scheduled for that date is the traditional seminar of the College of Commissioners, the meeting usually held outside Brussels to set the work agenda for the autumn 2026 legislative cycle.

More specifically, the commissioners will need to begin work on the draft legislation on affordable housing, the Innovation Act, legislation on public procurement and the package for the outermost regions – all of which are expected as early as 9 September, according to the provisional agenda. On 15 September, the package on fair labour mobility – due on 15 September and comprising three legislative proposals: a European social security card, the strengthening of the European Labour Authority, and an initiative on skills portability – could then be presented.

For the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, the seminar on 4 September will also provide an opportunity to begin drafting her State of the Union speech, scheduled for 15 September. The State of the Union will serve, as usual, to take stock of the results achieved and outline future priorities.
