Brussels – The European Commission hosted a meeting today (4 November) with delegations from Germany, France, the United Kingdom (the so-called E3), Ukraine, and the United States, together with representatives from NATO and the World Bank, to discuss the country’s post-war reconstruction and economic prospects. The talks, announced yesterday by Brussels, follow on from recent meetings held in Miami and form part of diplomatic efforts to achieve a lasting peace in the country.
The meeting focused on outlining scenarios for Ukraine’s post-war economic development and identifying the tools to support its growth. The Commission emphasised in particular the importance of the reform programme that Kyiv is implementing as part of the EU accession process, which is considered a key factor for “stability, investor confidence, and the attraction of private capital and international support,” according to the European Commission’s press release.
“The EU remains united and steadfast in its support for Kyiv,” the European Commission reiterated, noting that it has provided the country with €231.5 billion since the start of Russia’s war of aggression. Work will continue to refine the framework for prosperity drawn up in recent months in collaboration with Kyiv and Washington.
The meeting is taking place while diplomatic efforts to end the conflict continue, ahead of the trilateral talks between the United States, Kyiv, and Russia scheduled for 10 and 11 November in Abu Dhabi.
