Brussels – Olof Skoog is the new EU special representative for human rights. The EU Council decided to give the Swedish diplomat the post currently held by Eamon Gilmore. Skoog, 62, who has been the head of the European Union Delegation to the United Nations since December 2019, will take up his post on March 1 and serve for two years.
Skoog will be responsible for the implementation of EU human rights policy, EU positions on promoting respect for international humanitarian law, and support for international criminal justice.
