US seeks to soften the EU’s Digital Services Act before sealing the tariff deal

Brussels – The Digital Services Act is blocking the final go-ahead for the tariff agreement reached between the EU and the US on 27 July in Scotland.

 According to explanations European officials gave the Financial Times, the United States dislikes this set of rules aimed at making the digital space more transparent and reliable, as it considers a non-tariff barrier to its companies. It is therefore seeking to soften the EU’s position, which has, however, set its “red line” on these rules.
