Brussels – The European Commission has approved a 600 million euro Italian aid scheme under EU state aid rules to promote investment in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.

The scheme aims to promote cooperation and integration among fishery and aquaculture operators and stimulate better market relations. Specifically, the scheme will support the development of sector contracts through investment aid distributed among various beneficiaries operating in different sector segments, from production to processing and marketing fishery and aquaculture products.

The scheme will be open to enterprises of all sizes operating in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. The measure, which will last until Dec. 31, 2029, provides aid in the form of direct grants and/or subsidized financing.
