Ryanair calls for army intervention to handle queues at Charleroi

Brussels – Soldiers at the airport. Today (April 17), Ryanair — the airline that operates the vast majority of flights at the airport — called on the Walloon government to take urgent measures to remedy the shortage of security personnel at Charleroi Airport, 50 kilometers from Brussels, ahead of an expectedly busy Easter weekend. Belgian newspaper Le Soir reports that Ryanair says some 2,000 passengers missed their flights in the first half of April precisely because of the queues that formed at security checkpoints.

According to the testimony of some passengers, waiting times at the checkpoints are as long as 90 minutes, with lines stretching to the outside of the building.

Ryanair claims it has been demanding action from the Walloon government for four months but to no avail.
