Brussels – Giorgio Gori, MEP for the PD/S&D group, will be the shadow rapporteur for the regulation establishing a separate founding act for the European Union Agency for Space Services (EUSPA).
The Italian MEP thus reaffirms his leading role in space-related matters: in addition to being vice-chair of the Sky&Space parliamentary intergroup, Gori is also the shadow rapporteur for the entire S&D Group on the Space Act, the European space law currently being drafted.
During the first two years of his parliamentary term, Gori has shown a keen interest in space affairs, gaining an in-depth understanding of all the key aspects of the European space sector and establishing himself as a leading point of contact for companies in the sector and the continent’s major institutions.
“Space is a crucial issue for our future,” Gori said. “The space race is no longer the monopoly of a few nations, but a global competition in which state and private actors are competing with aggressive investment and innovative technologies. European space regulations are currently fragmented and, for this reason, have so far held back innovation, reducing Europe’s market share and creating additional costs.”
Gori therefore believes that “multiple measures are needed to harmonise the framework at the EU level and to streamline European space governance: this way, we can ensure safety, resilience, and environmental responsibility, while helping businesses grow and expand across borders.”
