Brussels – Good news for transport in the European Union: the European Commission is inviting proposals worth €1.1 billion to modernise infrastructure on the
    trans-European transport network

(TEN-T). This is the final call for proposals under this project as part of the current European Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF 2021–2027). The aim is “to create smarter, more efficient, and more sustainable infrastructure, to improve interoperability and to strengthen the resilience of transport networks across the EU,” according to the press release from the European Commission.

The call for proposals focuses primarily on railways, the decarbonisation of maritime transport and military mobility, in line with calls to strengthen European defence readiness and in support of the EU’s military mobility package. Ukraine and Moldova are included in the call under Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU’s flagship instrument for the financing and implementation of the TEN-T policy. The two countries, which have recently opened negotiation chapters for EU accession, have been included in the programme to “strengthen transport links” with the EU.

The selected projects will support the implementation of key transport proposals. They will take forward the EU high-speed rail plan and the Industrial Action Plan for the European Automotive Sector, while strengthening maritime connectivity, in line with the EU maritime and industrial port strategies recently presented. The funding will also strengthen European defence readiness by addressing bottlenecks in military mobility and supporting the rapid implementation of the EU military mobility package. The deadline for submitting applications is 6 October 2026.
