Brussels – Forza Italia MEP Salvatore De Meo took the floor during the plenary session in Strasbourg to speak on the European Action Plan on Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence, describing it as “a strategic choice to strengthen the Union’s security, competitiveness, and resilience”. De Meo emphasised that AI, if used by hostile actors, can undermine systems, economies, and democracies, and that Europe must ensure “that it is always people who guide its development”. Referring to Pope Leo XIV’s Encyclical Letter “Magnifica Humanitas”, De Meo concluded that “Artificial Intelligence must remain a tool in the hands of humankind, never a substitute for human judgement.”
