EU launches consultation on its steel regulation

Brussels – The European Commission has launched a public consultation to gather the views of interested parties on the scope of the EU Regulation on steel, with a view to assessing which products should be included in the regulation itself. The regulation sets duty-free quotas of 18.3 million tonnes, with a 50 per cent duty on imports outside these quotas, and a melting and casting scheme to improve transparency. 

The public consultation will gather information and views from steel producers, steel users, traders, importers, trade associations, and other interested parties to identify the product categories that should be subject to EU measures. The consultation will last eight weeks, until 30 September 2026.​
