Brussels – Italy is preparing to ask the European Union to disburse the sixth instalment of the NRRP (National Recovery and Resilience Plan), amounting to €8.5 billion. This is the outcome of the meeting of the PNNR control room held today (June 24) at Palazzo Chigi.

According to the assessment of the NRRP control committee, the 37 targets required of Italy to obtain the sixth instalment of European funds have been met. Members of this body are the government, Anci (National Association of Italian Municipalities), Upi (Union of Italian Provinces) and the Conference of Regions and Autonomous Provinces. The progress of the sixth instalment will now allow the government to verify and report on the 69 targets and objectives set for the seventh instalment of the NRRP, equivalent to €18.2 billion.

Also, thanks to the latest NRRP decree that has been converted into law, Italy can now request the disbursement of the sixth instalment of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. Among the goals requested for this deadline are strategic investments related to the construction of infrastructure for the expansion of gas transportation (Adriatic Line), training of technical, digital, and managerial skills of professionals in the national health system, the start of infrastructure works within the special economic zones (SEZ) in the South of Italy, the renewal of the fleet for the national fire brigade command, and the digitization of national parks.

Satisfaction with the steps forward taken by the government in the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who said, “For the sixth instalment, as happened for the fifth, Italy is the first country at the European level to submit the request for payment.” Also along the same lines was the Minister for European Affairs, the South, Cohesion Policies and the NRRP Raffaele Fitto, who added, “The data on the substantial increase in investments in public works, which in the south registered a growth rate of more than 50 per cent during 2023, confirm that we have fully entered Phase 2 of the NRRP, that of the concrete grounding of investments to shape the Italy of tomorrow.”
