Brussels – The European Commission has appointed Maria Cristina Russo as Deputy Director-General responsible for innovation, prosperity and international cooperation in the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation (DG RTD). The day of the actual takeover of the new functions will be announced at a later date.
Italian, with over 30 years of experience at the European Commission, Russo has extensive expertise in industrial research, policy development, and financial affairs. The EU executive believes that “thanks to her comprehensive understanding of the Commission’s policies and its research and competitiveness priorities,” Maria Cristina Russo is “exceptionally well equipped to bring valuable institutional insight as Deputy Director-General of DG RTD.”
