Budget, Coreper agrees to an additional 3.9 billion for 2013

Concluding negotiations on the new multi-year fiscal budget grew closer yesterday. The representatives of the European Union member states signed one of the requests that the European Parliament is demanding for its positive vote on the treaty: a corrective measure for the current year. Yesterday the Permanent Representative Committee (Coreper) gave the go ahead for a 3.9 billion Euro expenditure. It involves the outstanding payment of 11.2 billion requested by the Commission to cover all the payments for the current year. The 28 member states had only guaranteed 7.3 billion, causing rage from the European Parliament and triggering threats of a veto on the vote for Mff (Multi-annual Financial Framework – the seven year budget for 2014-2020). Therefore yesterday’s green light for the remaining sum seems to be decisive for the remainder of the negotiations.

The permanent delegation also reaches an agreement on the draft amending the 2013 budget regarding the help for countries hit by floods during the summer of 2012. The mobilization of 400.5 million Euro was approved for: Germany 360.5 million, Austria 21.7 million, the Czech Republic 15.9 million and Romania 2.5 million.
