The European Council will meet few days after the elections. Member States will discuss the name to be proposed as next European Commission President in view of the electoral results
An extraordinary European Council meeting will be held on May 27. Herman Van Rompuy has updated the calendar of the forthcoming meetings of the a Council, with the introduction of an “Informal Dinner of Heads of State or Government” to the official calendar previously issued. Even the kind of meeting will be “special”: one day of works instead of two, as it happens in formal summits. The meeting will be probably focused on the discussion about the possible name for the next European Commission President, at the end of José Manuel Barroso’s mandate: the extraordinary meeting will in fact be held immediately after the European Elections on May 22-25. An historical date, given that for the first time in the EU life, citizens will vote their candidate for the candidate at the European Commission, thanks to the indications given by European Parties.
