A Belgrade newspaper reports consensus for joining as low as 41%, the worst in the past 10 years
According to a survey conducted by Danas – a local newspaper – only 41 per cent of Serbs would vote in favour of EU membership. This is the lowest consensus of the past 10 years, down 18 per cent compared to the results of the same survey, conducted in June 2012. The paper explains the fall with “the economic crisis and poverty” that hit Serbia, but also with “the conditions imposed by the EU accession process” (in particular in relation to Kosovo) and “the contradictory messages the previous and the current government sent citizens”.
